Dan Meyers is a high school math teacher who provides us with a new meaning of what mathematics is. He goes into detail about what the issues are in the math curriculum, specifically mathematical reasoning, and poses many solutions to these problems. He describes students as being less critical thinkers than they should be. He says that the world needs more "patient-problem solvers". A term that is only reachable by redefining word problems, encouraging mathematical conversation, and moving away from the textbook and into conversation. I think this video was particularly helpful in describing what it means to be a critical math thinker, how to encourage students to get there, and is a good resource for teachers when problems in this area arise.
Great Video! This really ties in well with what we have been discussing in Dr. White's class. There have definitely been a lot of issues with the math curriculum for a while, yet nothing seems to be changing. I think as future teachers we can all draw an important lesson from this and be better able to go about making changes. word count: 60
